Honda VTX, do I need power commander ?

I want to make my exhaust louder, but I cant buy (import) new exhaust, so I want to "pill off" the inside of the exhaust (back part), without touching the catalyzator, so will I need a power comm?
Some "experts" tell me that I'll need one for sure, others tell me that if I dont touch the cat, there will be no problem with the FI light (fuel injection), what do you think?
My VTX is brand new, it only has 6000km (3800miles).
Let me just say that I tried once, I take out the exhaust pipe (after the catalyzator) AND drive it for couple of seconds, it sound LOUD but the machine was working fine, and the light FI doesnt light, so I think maybe it will be ok to go without that f****** Power commander, a?
