Why won't my computer read a blank DVD?

I have a Sony DVD multi -recorder RW disc drive. It can read my CD's that i put in there. I have a home movie on my computer that i want to burn on a DVD but the writing wizard says there isn't a CD in the drive. On My Computer, it starts off saying DVD RW drive but changes once i insert a blank DVD. It says CD drive. How can i burn my DVD soon!?

Without knowing the exact model of your CD/DVD drive, I'm guessing your drive can read and burn CD's and is read-only on DVDs These are not uncommon. If you want to burn, you can only burn to CD, not DVD, but it is capable of reading both CDs and DVDs.

Some programs have an option where you can actually tell it what to look for. CD or DVD disk because CD is the default. Check for that first.
