Why does my DVD drive's read rate dwindle to 0?

I have recently got new laptop with a DVD super Multi DL Drive, but I can't seem to read DVD's properly. The read rate would start from 3.5x then dwindle down to nothing (0.0x), the drive stops reading after 2 or 3 minutes.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance!

I'd first try using a drive-cleaning disc, or check if your disc is scratched.

If your warranty is still up, you can probably send the drive in for replacement.
