Why do they put anti-piracy ads in DVD's?

It makes absolutely no sense. I mean think about it. The DVD's anti-piracy ads are in, are genuine, they're not pirated. So why on earth would the manufacturer put in an anti-piracy advert, that is exclusively going to be shown to people not committing piracy with that particular film?
If anything this is going to make people want to buy pirated DVD's as opposed to genuine ones where there time is going to be wasted telling them to do something they're clearly not doing.

They are mandated by the law to put those, also as a reminder to people that piracy is illegal and punishable by law. Believe it or not, not everyone knows the law. For example, a teenage boy watches a movie from a DVD and he loves it so he makes a personal copy of it as sort of a memorabilia. There's no piracy intent, he just wants to save it for himself. Having the anti-piracy ads on the DVD would inform him of the consequences, like if he sells copies of it, etc.

Besides, the manufacturer couldn't be sure that everyone who would get a hold of the DVD are going to be honest people. For instance, I can buy a non-pirated DVD, but I can make a copy of that same DVD illegally, right?

    Hope that answers ur question.

Because they don't reach people otherwise. Ironically, with every spot they put on the dvds they encourage people to pirate the movies, just to get rid of the ads.

Some of the producers noticed that and put "thank you" messages on their DVDs (for example Despicable Me has such a thank you ad.)
