Why do I need my debian dvd to install software?

I am running Debian linux Squeeze version 7 on my laptop. Whenever I want to install software, it asks me to insert my disk. Why does it need the dvd and how can I change this?

i think you need to go into the software sources (in menu or update manager settings, other software tab).

tick to enable repositories, untick dvd.

then alter the updates tab, when finished refresh by clicking check for updates in update manager.

you still might need to add a repository, the debian guide probably says which.
