    Yes ..is the short answer, its just a Technology that you need not concern your self with. If you are into burning Video and music you should consider, more importantly, the software you'll need to do the job well. Your new pc will come with the basic software to burn disks, but consider a better software package, Roxio Creator for example.

    All CD - DVD drives are optical. If the drive says that it is CD-r or DVD-r then yes you can.

    I've looked into it.
    Optical Drive
    Type: DVD±RW / DVD-RAM

    Optical drive is just another term for dvd-rom drive. And yes this one will let you burn photos and backup cd's...If you see DVD±RW, means it can burn
