Just out of curiosity. Is there anything the VHS has (aside from childhood memories of using it) that DVD doesn't have, or has VHS beeing entirely replaced?

It looks like it will be entirely replaced, just as the cassette was replaced by the compact disc. However, I have some personal comments on the two formats.
For several months I fought with two models, two different brands of DVD recorders. I found the technology to be sluggish and undependable compared to my no-frills inexpensive VCR VHS recorder. My VCR has been like a trusty old friend that never fails me, and it is years older than the DVRs. One DVD recorder would reject discs that it had previously accepted, and would lose its time, causing me to miss timed recordings. The other would pop up irrelevant messages on the screen during the playing of a movie, and half the time wouldn't even respond properly to on and off commands. Almost every night I would have to unplug the thing to get it to operate properly.
Now, I have never had problems with simple DVD players, so I am happy to upgrade to those.
