can any external dvd writer work for my pc?

im new to this dvd and cd writer stuff and im asking this because there are specific graphic cards that only work for certain computers and i want to know if it's the same for the dvd writers

Any external dvd writer should work for you as long as you have the same type of interface for both of them.

Most of the time, if you match up the cable connections, all you will need is the correct driver, but some times the driver must be installed first, before you plug in the device.

If the device gets its power from the wall outlet, make sure you have enough outlets and if it gets its power from a USB port, make sure you have enough reserve power from your power supply!

If you have an "Internet connection" you can usually download the correct driver from the manufactures web site.

Become familiar with your system and Motherboard connections and you will find that installing graphics cards is easy.

BTW, a burner is a writer. but it's more important what it does than what you call it!
