Copy to DVD-R instead of CD-R?

I'm wanting to make a backup of my Nascar 2002 cd (PC cd-rom) using Alcohol 120%. But I've got no CD-R's, just some DVD-R discs instead. Is it possible to burn the CD image to a DVD-R disc instead to serve the same purpose?

Also now out of curiosity, could the same be done with a 1GB pen drive, i.e burn the cd image to it, then use as if it was the original CD (for playing/installing etc.)
