Polaroid Portable DVD Player Help?

We just bought this Polaroid PDV-1008N Portable DVD Player about 2 years ago, and for some reason there is a problem with it.

We got the AC adapter that you plug into the wall outlet to allow it to turn on, but when you plug it into the DVD player the little red light goes off. When you remove the plug from the DVD Player the red light comes back on.

I was wondering where the problem could actually be at. Is it the DVD Player or the Adapter?
