Nero Dvd Burner Software?

I cant get this to work. I put a blank dvd cd in the new memorx drive i bought (external) and it came with NERO. I have tried twice to burn dvds but it seems like it does not work. At the end of the process (about 2 hours) it tell me there was a error.

The thing is the burner is not even working, like you can tell if the disc is spinning, and its not while im trying to burn. I do have the right drive selected, that is not a problem.

I also know it is not the burner, i tried a different software, and I heard the burner working. The software was crappy though and didnt work. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong, or is there a lot better program out there. Thanks
