Thread: Laptop DVD drive vs desktop slimline DVD drive?

I'm building a compact media PC which has space for a slimline optical drive. Is this the same as a laptop optical drive or are slimline optical drives and laptop optical drives different?

I'm thinking that if the dimensions are right, it should fit. That's pretty much what the computers at my school use. The only issue I can think of is the SATA/power cable, I guess that if you have the right cables, it should work. I don't know if those drives would have the same connectors as the motherboard. I guess you could get an adapter, though.
