Imgburn won't detect blank DVD-R discs?

I tried burning a image file to a blank DVD-R and i had everything ready but when I put in the blank DVD-R, Imgburn says at the bottom of the window "Device not ready (Logical unit is in process of becoming ready)" Then after that it says "Device not ready (Medium not present)" Basically, it's not detecting the empty disc, so I checked my computer and then the DVD/CD-RW drive and it was just the normal icon that it usually is like it wasn't detecting anything either. And no, the disc is not scratched, i bought them brand new yesterday, didn't even open it until i needed to put it into the drive, and i also checked it for scratches. So, what do i do to fix this problem.
