If i burn an mpeg2 file onto a blank DVD, will it play in my DVD player?

As i know the Mpeg2 is a vcd format...i did try convert a rmvb anime eps to mpeg2 ... it work perfectly on my DVD player (i use nero and cheetah quick burner

I already have the mpeg2 file of my friends drama club play. (i converted the avi file to mpeg2 from my camcorder using sony vegas)
If i just burn the mpeg2 file onto a blank DVD (i use deepburner) will it be a 'finished' DVD, or do i need to use some other DVD authoring software?
