    STEP1: Create an ISO file
OPTION 1: You can use Nero to create an ISO file from the DVD
OPTION 2: Install Ashampoo free edition http://download.cnet.com/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio-Free/3000-2646_4-10776287.html
Insert the DVD on your DVD recorder
Open Ashampoo and select CREATE/BURN DISC IMAGE >> CREATE A DISC IMAGE FROM A CD DVD and follow the instructions.

STEP 2: SPLIT THE ISO FILE
OPTION1: Download HJSPLIT http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/#win32 a portable utility. Follow the screens it is very easy to use. To join the parts use the same program
OPTION2: You can also use winzip, winrar or 7zip (free http://www.7-zip.org/ ) to split the file
Tutorial: How to split a file using:
    7zip : http://www.linglom.com/2008/10/12/how-to-split-a-large-file-using-7-zip/
    winrar: http://www.binaries4all.com/winrar/
    winzip: http://kb.winzip.com/kb/entry/255

    Free App called MPEGStreamclip.

Provided you already have the correct codecs on your machine you should be able to open the VIDEO_TS folder and manipulate the .VOB files, chapetering, splitting and exporting as more efficient files sizes (i.e. recompress with multipass H.264)
