Nero will not mess up your DVD player. (Make sure you use a real version of Nero). Also, you have to have special programs to copy a DVD. Get a good media player, i.e. Power DVD, because that will allow you to use it like Nero and watch movies without screwing up any files.
i've tried nero w/ my EZDUB external CD/DVD burner on 2 different laptops and NEVER been able to get it to work correctly. Nero freezes nonstop and is quite annoying. the only way u can copy a movie (using a dvd) is to rip it. i'm not sure if there is a "rip" option on nero, but even if it has one, you might have to strip the dvd of its copyright protection before you can rip it. i'm not sure if it's illegal since i've never used one myself, but i'd look into it if i were you.
and if nero doesnt work out for you, the best DVD maker/burner program i've found so far is Windows DVD Maker. It came free on my laptop, but i'm pretty sure you can buy it (or if it's free, download it).
good luck, and be careful using nero
I recently bought a new LG DVD Burner
It came with Nero
It worked fine for about 4 months
then suddenly it's only recognized as a CD Rom
This is on a desktop computer
I believe it has something to do with a new part of Nero named inCD
it mounted my drive as a Cd now I can't fix it
I even uninstalled Nero
Still got the problem
I installed a different burning software, but it didn't fix it either.
I've used Nero for many years and never had that problem.
