howcome movies never fit on dvd discs?

I have several movies on my hard drive that are no more than 700mb, but when I go to burn them to dvd it says they will take up 6250kb on the disc...and the disc is only 4.3gb. I don't understand...all I know is that i really want to watch some movies I downloaded on my tv

I meant to say it says it will take up 6.25GB not kb.

you are attempting to burn as Video-DVD. burn as Data-DVD. You can watch on your computer but not in a DVD player.
