...my car? I have a portable DVD player that needs plugged into either a car outlet or a regular outlet in a wall to run.Is there anything else I can use, other than like a large generator to power it. Say like some sort of smaller battery pack I could plug it into?

I'd think that the right number of D cells in a holder would work,
but be prepared to replace or recharge them frequently.

To determine the number of cells required, divide the player's
rated voltage by 1.5 (you may want to use 1.2 for rechargeable cells).
For example, if it runs on 12V, use 8 alkaline cells (nominally 1.5 V each)
or 10 rechargeables (nominally 1.2V each).

Battery holders for various numbers of cells are available from
a number of sources; Mouser Electronics has the best selection.

There are also "gel cell" batteries, commonly available
in 6V and 12V and a number of different amp-hour capacities.
Larger ones will provide longer run time between charges,
but will also take commensurately longer to charge.
Suitable chargers for these are more difficult to find than
are chargers for "regular" batteries like D cells.
