How do I make MKV movie files playable on standard DVD players?

I have a few MKV movie files that are relatively small, and will fit on DVD+R discs I have. I would like to preserve all quality and audio set ups in them if possible. I want them to be in a format that will play on all normal DVD players, or are very likely to.

What are the best programs and ways to make this conversion and be able to burn them?
