I have Time Warner Cable. I had the same at my last house, but I had a different DVD recorder. I had my DVD recorder connected in a way that I didn't get an onscreen display from the DVD recorder. It would record content from my cable DVR while I watched same. I've connected a new DVD recorder. When I turn it on I get an onscreen display. I click record I get a black screen. I clicked stop, then play. The counter did run and what I saw was that black screen. I think it may have something to do with order of connection or how I connect it. The cable DVR only has coax and 1 set of "out" RCA connectors. The DVD recorder only has 1 audio coax out. I use an adapter to send coax cables in and out with RCA connections on it.
