How can I get scenes from a dvd as a picture?

I have a dvd of myself (sport) and I want to put some of the recorded scenes as pictures so I can look at things such as my stances and techniques more closely. So basically I want to pause and then copy a picture of that moment.

    How can I do this?

It's a .vob file (VLC media file)

If you have VLC media player, then all you need to do is right click the screen>snapshot. It saves to My Pictures in .png format as default. If you want to save as jpeg, go to Settings>preferences>video and select jpeg from the video snapshot format drop down menu. Click "save" to keep your changes. Good luck.
