How can I fix my DVD Drive?

My DVD Drive hasn't been working for a few months now. Once day it was working, and a few days later it wasn't. There's a sound when i put the DVD in, like the DVD/CD's spinning around but nothing pops up and it says it can't detect a disk. I've tried installing and reinstalling it. Same thing.
I have an HP Pavilion, a6518f. I called customer support but the guy said that my serial number wasn't valid or something. My dad bought my computer from Best Buy so I'm pretty sure it's legit.

always goto my computer to eject disks and make sure the dvd drive restores safely, if it dosent simply restart your computer or right click and choose refresh and never eject disk while their still in progress of loading

DVD drives are cheap, buy a new one. But first check your internal connections, unplug and plug them back in.
