DVD-R question?

I have a question about DVD/R-'s.

My driver says "DVD/CD-RW" does that mean it will only burn RW and not R's? and also will it only burn - (negative) not + (plus) ones?

Also, my portable DVD player says it can play DVD+R and DVD+RW, I have DVD-R so I cant play them on my dvd player, can I? I suspect it only plays + DVDs.
