Dell Inspiron 1501 DVD-RW drive not working?

I've had this computer for a while and I hate it. I've got it running on the Windows 7 beta if that helps. Not only does my DVD-RW drive not work; the computer doesn't even recognize that it's there. I have no idea what to do. I've already looked in the device manager (it doesn't show up), and manually taking the drive out of the computer and putting it back in.

    Hi,

Dvd drives are set up in the bios, so re-boot the pc and go into the bios, that is usually accessible by pressing the DEL key when the computer boots.

It does vary but is usually shown on the boot up screen as to which key to press or check your manual.

Once in the bios check and see if the dvd rom is found there.

If not then there is a hardware fault.

If it it then presumably the windows 7 has a problem, as it is a bets version you should check with Microsoft or Dell.
