connecting a new dvd player to TV?

Recently my dvd/vcr player stopped working (old age). I bought a new DVD player and tried to get it going. There are 3 male connections for both the TV and the DVD. The problem is, my TV has only 2 ports; one yellow and the other white. There is a third port adjacent the the others, but that is for head phones. How oh how do I hook this thing up? Any input will be appreciated. Thank you, Jethro

i assume your TV isn't stereo. The yellow port is video, the white one is audio. DVDs are stereo, and therefore have yellow (video) and two audio ports, Left and right stereo. i think in this case you go red output to white input. You would be getting stereo though. Get a cheapie home stereo system. Run the audio into that, and the video into your TV.
