I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows Vista. I've had it just over a year & it came with a CD/DVD driver. I used it a few times when I first got the laptop, but not at all since then. At that time I was able to burn pictures, view DVDs, play & upload CDs.

Since then I've used it primarily at my kitchen table, but have taken it on a few road trips, one by plane & 2-3 by car.

Last week I downloaded some songs from the internet to burn to a CD in Windows Media Player. When I hit "start burn", a notice came up saying "Connect to a burner and restart the Player".

I checked Device Manager, & there was a warning icon with a notice that said "This device cannot start. (code 10)"

It says it's a

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N ATA Device
Driver version 6.0.600.16386 (Vista_rtm.061101-2205)

Do I need to replace the driver? or is it possible that on one of my road trips got "unplugged" & just needs to be reconnected? If it needs to be replaced, what does it cost (parts & labor)?
