The specs show that they are compatible for DVD, but when you get to the DVD+R, it only says "read compatible". Does that mean that I can or cannot play these movies?

Can I play DVD+R home movies on the BluRay players?

I use DVD+R and RWs and I have no issues with my blu ray reading them. If you are using cheap DVDs that may be your problem. Or the disks have not been finalized in the recorder or drive that you produced the disk.
