Bought a new hi-def DVD recorder only to find I cant record anything from

my hi-def cable TV box.? I pay big duckets for cable, work hours that dont allow me prime time tv viewing, and am now wondering what the flyin H is this new recorder good for? No one warns you of this on the box when you buy it, what the H is wrong with this country? The government protects these a hoes so they can sell their products to us unknowing consumers without having to tell us what we can not do with these products. Now to my question...is there a way around this? My recorder is a JVC.
Well Jeff, I probably would do that but wouldnt you think that another recorder would have the same copywrite protection?
Now if we could just get consumers together and tell cable companies, no copy, no customer.....
