Unfortunately, the first two answers weren't quite accurate.
"It depends on ur TV if u have a flat screen tv bigger than 32" blue ray would be best. Its all about the definition"
This idea that it's all about your TV's definition isn't 100% true. While Blu Ray does produce a 1080 (high def) signal, it also has far superior audio. This, of course, has nothing to do with your TV's screen resolution.
Also, as Cryme stated:
"a few reasons why a blu ray player is better than a regular dvd player
1.Blu ray has less cords
2.It can play 3D
3Blu rays on PS3
4.Blu rays awesome"
This too isn't quite accurate because Blu Ray players can't play 3D unless they happen to by 3D Blu Ray players.
In the end, a Blu Ray player provides about 7.5 times better picture resolution than a DVD, given that you have a compatible TV. It also provides magnificent audio, given that you have a nice surround sound system.
If you do not have a high definition TV or a surround sound system, then Blu Ray would probably be nothing more than a waste of money.
