    Best DVD/Book to Learn Banjo?

    Best DVD/Book to Learn Banjo?

I recently moved to a rural area for work. There are no banjo teachers in the area, but I just bought one and want to learn.

What is the best way to learn on my own. I am thinking I need a really good DVD and book. I want to learn everything from how to string and tune a banjo....to playing songs and reading tabs.

    Thanks

As long as you are dedicated to practicing, almost any source will do. You will want something that includes a good amount of banjo tabs, but aside from that the most important thing to do is practice. When it comes to how to hold the banjo, where to put what fingers, and so on, players disagree about the "right" way to do it; as long as you're sitting up straight and getting a good sound it probably doesn't make much of a difference.

Also be sure to get some nickel finger picks; I tried plastic for a long time, don't do it. You'll also want a tuner and a metronome.

Banjo is not easy! Practice, practice, practice!
