why is my divx player not working ?

i have this home cinema system. LG HT554PH and it is divx compaitable.
but when i convert the mkv video to avi format -with divx codec it dont work in the player. why is it not working. are there any other free softwares which convert the videos to divx. not divx codec which seems to be not working.

i have the player too but in Samsung, the problem is that not all Divx are compatible, mostly MKV are converted using Xvid or FFDShow, remember once you convert from MKV to Divx you will lose HD quality.

The only way out is to convert that avi to DVD format (vob) then it will work, i use a program called avi2dvd
