red wine is usually easier for people to drink; white wine has to be refridgerated and doesn't really go with a vast variety of foods. red wine goes with anything and can really be kept anywhere. plus, i personally prefer red wine

Make it red. Guys hate the color pink, so that would be a bad choice. White is not a good idea, to many people either really like white wine, or really hate white wine. Going with red is the safe solution, everyone will drink red wine or knows someone who will drink it.

A nice medium dry white wine is best. Every one likes white and you can also mix it with other things.

Another idea is perhaps a bottle of sparkling wine since owning a house is a celebration.

Otherwise, I would recommend a red wine like a pinot noir or a zin. They are generally lighter on the taste. However, here are some reds (merintage) that are VERY good and under $20.

1. SIMI Alexander Vally Cab
2. Cinnebar's Mercury Rising
3. Rosenblum's Cuvee
4. Gallo Sonoma - the Sonoma part is VERY important

If you're looking for something a bit more expensive, ping me. I can give you a nice list based on your price range.

Either would be appropriate, even a nice rose`, which has become very popular again.

I would definitely prefer a red - doesn't have to be a heavy one. Something along the line of a pinot noir would be really nice. Great idea, by the way!
