    Spinach and weird feeling teeth?

Why when you eat spinach does it make your teeth feel so weird? We went out to eat at On The Border tonight and we had the all-you-can-eat enchilada's. After 4 spinach & mushroom enchilada's, my teeth felt really weird. Why?

In spinach there is oxalic acid, and that weird feel on your teeth is caused by oxalic acid. Best thing to do is to brush your teeth afetrwards or you can reduce oxalic acid by blanching raw spinach.

    Hope i helped.

It's probably the oxalate (sp?) which may cause your teeth to feel squeaky.

I notice that too when I eat spinach, it is kind of a put off for me actually. I would describe it as a waxy type of feeling. I always just chalked this up to the naturally occurring plant waxes on the leaves. Pretty sure it is just a characteristic of the plant and is harmless.

Spinach is naturally gritty because it is grown in very fine sand which remains after washing.
