home brewery beer/cider making kits. Are they any good, is the end product

nice?? UK!? I am thinking about one of those £50 kits which will make about 40pints, but im a bit dubious about how the end product will taste, will it be an anticlimax and give me a headache or will it be worth it????
any experiences??????
