First time griller w/ a charcoal Smokey Joe Weber Grill... Help!?

I have never grilled before, and now I'm very tempted to try my hand at it. I don't have much space (1 bdrm apt) and will have to grill outside our apartment building, so I want to buy a Weber Smokey Joe portable grill. My question isn't about the grill, but how to safely light, maintain, and dispose of charcoal as I use my grill. Anyone have any tips, tricks, or simple directions?

Experienced Smokey Joe users are especially encouraged to answer!!!

    Thanks!!!

    Office Building Smokey Joe Jr.

Late reply ;-) I have a Smokey Joe Jr, 3rd one actually. They work great for 2 people or a small area. They are easy to light either with lighter fluid or what I use is a large tin can with can opener holes punched around the closed end and stuff it with paper and briquets.
Works just like the large size charcoal starters. Very easy to maintain heat with the Weber/kettle design and being so small the ash buildup is minimal. just let it burn out, completely out, and a day or two later dump the ash in the trash. Pick up a couple of general BBQ books or research online. Nothing beats the taste of cooking over coals. Good luck!
