I got this (dumb) idea..
(Well I had actually witnessed a woman who visited my high school culinary class do this).
..to make this "dessert" with (for lack of a better cooking term) "sauteed" apples & bananas atop pound cake.
I figured if she did it and made it delicious, I could do it and make it somewhat edible
Being the somewhat impulsive type I am, I put the bananas in FIRST (big mistake) then the apples (which took longer than expected to soften)
To make this long story short, I ended up with tasty apples on pound cake

and a wasted banana in the trash.
The bananas ended up kind of chalky and tasted strangely like potatoes lol.
So my question is: Where did I go wrong?
How did that lady in my class make them right then and there in a high school classroom, and make them yummy?
Next Question: Do I need to add something in? I was under the impression that the "natural sugars would caramelize" and the end result would be sweet cooked bananas!
Were they cooked too long?
