Because so many uptight people in politics apparently never heard of separation of church and state. Plus they seem to think that because they don't want a gay marriage that no one should have one because they're self centered like that. And finally, it's mob mentality. For years, African Americans were targeted with laws like the black codes. Now there's the whole situation in Arizona that's going to lead to racial profiling, and restrictions on gay rights. Someone is always going to be the target.
because theres too many people who base their entire opinion/beliefs on the bible and they dont think for themselves.
They can't because marriage is part of a religious institution.. religion rejects gay marriage so its just not logical.
Marriage has NOTHING to do with all that gay-vs-straight $#it.
Marriage has NOTHING to do with "being biblical" or "in the eyes of God"...
The purpose of marriage is to give "legality" to a man's offspring.
Society is strongly patriarchial;
and for 6000 years, a man's greatest asset is his offspring.
Heaven forbid a man have question to the truthful paternity of "his" child.
(This is also why we tell young women to be a virgin on her wedding night;
but young men are encouraged to go out & "sow their wild oats" first.)
But, back to your question:
Gays & lesbians (obviously) cannot produce children.
Therefore... the question of "WHY" they want marriage is nonsensical.
I don't see why governments should be concerned in who gets married, it's not important to them and i'm sure the majority of their citizens would be happier if they lifted the ban.
I think they're just living by old traditions that state marriage is between a girl and a guy. Since when aren't we advancing into new times? We can handle a change.. i think they're just scared.
Canada is fine though, it's just the US that won't (along w/ many other countries).
Sad, but i'd assume in time they'll lift the ban.
Because straight white christians make the laws in this country, fucked up ain't it.
