Moving to a Gay Community?

I'm thinking of moving from a small in North Carolina to a city where I can learn to accept who I am and live among other gay people. I don't have any gay friends to hang out with or just talk to. Where is the best place for me to move to other than California? Is there anyone who has been through this who can help me?
