Haven't we Christians handled the "Gay Marriage" issue very badly?

    (disclosure: I'm a conservative Christian/Republican)

I had an interesting conversation with my pastor the other day on the issue of gay-marriage. He told me that "he" defines marriage as union between a man & a woman. I told him that I agree, but others may not define it the way "WE DO". Question to him; Why should we pass laws to force others to see it our way or to define marriage the way we define it. Pastor: It's in the scriptures. Question: But many don't follow the scriptures or our interpretation of the scriptures...isn't more Christ-Like to allow them the free will to define the way they want...I mean who am I to sit in judgment and force by law others to think and behave as I do. Pastor: Have you seen them riot? Answer to Pastor: If someone came into my house or yours and said you can't be married to your wive anymore...wouldn't you riot?...I would!

Pastor: It's just the way we believe!

We as Christians have blown this, we have gone out of our way to throw human beings in the lions den. There is nothing, I mean zero in the bible telling us to: Go forth and FORCE others to my beliefs...ZIP!

    Would Jesus do this:

Not the Jesus I know, he's loving, kind, forgiving, understanding. He's the man at the well with Mary, he the one saying to us...the one without sin cast the first stone, he the man who stood before the mulitude and said LOVE your neighbor...even when they curse you!

I can't see Jesus opening up jail cells, I don't see Jesus name calling!

According to the bible we will all be judged...we will be judged by the way we judged others, this measure will be measured back to us.

Let us choose love, let us choose freedom, let us choose our fellow man................lest we be judged

Yes. I think we havent used love in the message. Love the person... hate the sin. If it was a different sin how would we talk to people about it.
