Because Rand's writing is focused on the power within self, and what power the self has to do whatever it wants. Roark overpowered dominque because thats what he wanted, and he took it (in more of a rape fashion than anything). Dominique accepted and loved this about Roark because any other man she encountered merely threw flatteries at her instead of just taking her.
I never really liked that aspect of the book. Rand glamourizes what can nearly be considered rape and even makes it seem romantic. Its not. Its been too long since Ive read the book too.
