we have 6 days to visit LA, S.Diego, Hollywood and the beaches , where do

we stay to cover the most with car? this will be our first time in the west coast and we are looking to cover as much as we can in those 6 days. any recommendations for a hotel that can be a suitable place to cover all these places with less driving time? we will have a 2 years old child....
i have read many answers , most suggest Orange County..any specific town or beach there for a hotel..?
