Are voice imitations or celebrity sound bytes public domain or are they copyright

when used to sell something? Wanting to sell a product with the help of some sound clips from various movies and celebrities. Are these sound bytes and celeb voices public domain? What if I was to use an impersonator? Would that work any better?

Using sound bytes without permission is probably illegal. Using impersonators is ok, if you have a disclaimer at the end. Something like, "All celebrity voices have been impersonated".

At the very least, that's an invasion of privacy. You cannot legally profit from using someone else's likeness or voice (if they have a distinctive voice) without that person's permission.
