That could be because America is very, very big and has a large pool of resources to pick from and Wales is, well, I'm not even sure which town Wales is in.

Dawn French, Keith Allen, Christian Bale, Timothy Dalton and Peter Greenaway were also all born in Wales, but may identify as English as they spent their formative years in England. Conversely, Philip Pullman is English, but spent many of his formative years in Wales (I know because my Great Aunt was his English teacher).
