i heard that taking your car out of town once in a while is actually good for it. Something about cleaning out the carbon from one of the exauhst system components. Does anyone know if this is true or if its good for your car in any other way?

yeah it's good even though the world has so much pollution but just driving it in town around all the other cars and exhaust isn't good. It's also good for you car to run a long time also which will help when you take it out for a long drive.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It just depends how much of a heap your car is. Cars that run well are going to clean up and cars that smoke and knock are probably going to throw a rod.

Good luck

my previous car lasted 10 years - the longest distance at any one time I used it was 100 km (read about 50 miles?) I don't drive out of my own city. Perhaps others are talking about "high performance cars" ?

well it definitly doesnt do that. but it can be good for your car depending on the car you have. for example, a luxury sedan is probably best used for in town travel, weras an SUV should be driven on long trips occasionally. any hybrid doesnt need and is probably better off without these sorts of trips. however in none of those circumstances does a trip affect the exhuast system.
