How do I get my friend's towed-away car back?

My friend parked his car on the pavement near my house yesterday before he went on his trip. I came home today and found the car gone (probably towed away). Is there any way that I can help him get his car back before he comes back? I don't have much info about the car except for the model and color. Thanks in advance.
