How can remove/replace ignition coil on Briggs &Stratton 5 HP engine?

Knowing this is not really technically automotive, but know that super techs (affectionately known as "gear heads") will be most knowledgable/helpful...on the Engine, one wire disappears behind the flywheel, which is like "welded "onto the crankshaft. Presume wire goes to points, which are most likely reason for no spark.

well, take the shroud off, there should be a coil next to the flywheel somewhere, then just take off the two bolts, remove it, cut the wire, and put on a new one with the right coil spacing from coil/flywheel, and reattach the wire with a connecter.

Before you remove any parts, check the kill switch or the grounding wire on the throttle assemble. The wire may have dislodged & grounding out.
To check the kill switch; use a multimeter & set to the ? scale. Switch off kill switch. Place one meter lead on "IN" & the other on the "OUT" wire. If the meter read "0" or indicates a fluctuating reading, then the switch is faulty.

The new Ignition coils (armature) do not require points. They're IC.
Roll the magnet on the flywheel around to the mounting prongs of the new armature.
Use a standard business card .010" thick to set the air gap between the coil, and the flywheel.
Tighten the two mounting screws snug and a little. NOT TOO TIGHT.
Now, roll the flywheel around to get your business card out.
Now, you'll notice the small black coil wire has two ends. If you only have one ignition kill source, cut the other "extra" wire off.

The wires that go under the flywheel from the "old" coil are useless and can be cut and removed.
