I'm sitting my test in a few weeks. Do most people use the car they practice in for the test? How much does it usually cost to use?

you normally book the car for an hour before the test and a hour for your test so its the cost of two lessons.
you don't have to, you can take your test in your parents car as-long as you are insured to drive it and you have L plates on the car.

my boyfriend paid about 60 pounds all together 20 for the car and 40 for a double lesson before but it depends on who your instructor is

Speak to your instructor. Normaly you'd use the driving school car for the test, and you'd pay as if it was an hour's lesson.
