Car Loan though no credit..?

Right now I'm driving around a 92 Volvo sedan ha ha and I'm pretty sure I should upgrade to new car. Though I have no credit and the only way I'd be able to get one is a car loan. I heard that if I get a joint credit card with someone with perfect credit that would reflect onto mine well. And I know , get a card , buy like a shirt or something of amazon and pay it on time I've heard it takes up to like 6 - 10 months -.- If I'd be able to get a 4-7 grand loan I'd be set. Any tips anyone?
