Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a car tomorrow that I saw in the classifieds. I called the number and the guy said the owner was arrested during a DWI and his car was towed. The way it sounded, he didn't pay his storage/towing fees so the car belongs to the towing company now. Does that sounds right so far?

Also, he said all I do is pay him the price he's asking and sign and notarize the title and take it to the DMV like you would normally do when you buy a car from someone and it'll be in my name.

Everything sound right? I don't want to pay him and then a month later the original owner sue me for it or something.

that does sound right.
usually the abandoned cars get auctioned off.

do take someone that knows about cars with you and look under the hood!

because he tow guys most likely will NOT let you test drive it. (not off the lot, anyway.)

you're buying it "as is", so that could be risky. you don't know the history of the car, you know?

but it is indeed a common practice. nothing illegal about it.
