What should i expect from MMA classes?

Hey everyone,

Ive always been big on sports and have been working out with weights for years. I recently decided to start doing MMA to train for either the police or military. The place i go to is offering a mixture of Muay Thai, Brazilian Ju Jitzu, and boxing.

-I wanted to know what should i expect?
-I also wanna know if itll be possible for me to conitue building my body size wise, kinda like mma and bodybuilding alike?

Expect a lot of hard work, bumps and bruises. You may be able to continue body building as long as you don't so big that it interferes with your flexability.

Camps/MMA gym typically won't start you out training Mixed Martial Arts, you train grappling (BJJ) and stand-up (muay thai, boxing) separately. We don't let new students mix the styles early on, you'll just have chaos and people getting injured.

Anyway, you typically do warm-up, push ups, jump ropes, and all those stuff for like 15 minutes. In stand-up class, if you're new the trainer will teach some basic stances, strikes, blocks, and combos. Probably light sparring, but here in my camp, they don't let new students join sparring session.

Grappling class/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also starts warm ups. I say grappling class is much more intense than muay thai class. Work on some techniques, submissions, reversals, transitions etc. After that, they will let you roll, and that's the fun start! (LOL) For first timers, your partner is not allowed to submit you, just work on transitions and stuff, passing his guard, getting on mount etc.

I guess all camps are different.

first off , youll need to be flexible and in relatively decent shape.

Get use to that hard tiring work. That really pushes you.

and be prepared for all the black eyes, sore muscles, and twisted joints.

They will all happen.
